Felix Lerch, managing director of RDG:

RDG represents the next generation of energy companies. As a young, growing high-tech company, we are following a new approach with regard to local extraction of raw materials. We specialise in optimising the extraction of existing fields and focusing on sustainable, environmentally friendly use.

RDG combines the extensive experience of its Austrian founding company RAG Austria AG with the latest technological expertise in E&P and the goal of sustainable, environmentally friendly extraction of raw materials. By using the latest technologies, RDG reduces its impact on the environment and countryside. Fracking has been abandoned as an extraction method. Open communication and dialogue with people in the region, NGOs and local politicians are an essential part of the RDG approach and for socially responsible E&P activities.

Former Uniper manager becomes RDG Executive Director

Wednesday 28 November 2018

Hanover-based RDG is an independent company under the umbrella of specialist investor Petroleum Equity (PE). He has now appointed another RDG CEO: Felix Lerch, former country chief of Uniper in the UK. His goal is to establish RDG as a large, independent E&P company in the European oil and gas segment.

Mr. Felix Lerch will be appointed CEO of RDG GmbH & Co. KG on 1 January 2019.
Mr. Felix Lerch will be appointed CEO of RDG GmbH & Co. KG on 1 January 2019.

Mr Lerch has over 20 years experience in the energy industry as well as extensive expertise in M & A activities. Most recently, he was responsible for over 1,000 employees at Uniper as country chairman in the UK. In his former position as Executive Vice President Production at E.ON E & P, he has been instrumental in expanding international production to more than 165,000 barrels of oil production per day. He subsequently oversaw the sale of the UK's upstream business and supported the divestment of the Norwegian E & P company. He began his career at Shell, where he held various technical and commercial positions for over 12 years.

"I am very happy to be part of the RDG," says Lerch. "Right now, there are many opportunities to grow in the European oil and gas market. The entrepreneurial approach of the RDG, always to keep an eye on the most important business areas and to develop them purposefully, is unique. The forward-looking approach of the RDG is to combine the best of two worlds - the classic oil and gas production with the development of re-use concepts for regenerative energies."
Bernhard Schmidt, founding partner of Petroleum Equity: "We are convinced that with Felix Lerch we have been able to win over a competent managing director for our RDG management team. With his many years of international expertise and experience in developing the North Sea portfolio, he is ideally suited to our company."

Information about the RDG:

The RDG is a new type of energy company. In its core business, it combines classic crude oil and natural gas production and the generation of renewable energies. It offers unique solutions for the decentralized extraction of domestic energy from the earth. As a high-tech company, RDG starts where its competitors stop: it combines the best of both worlds.

In August 2015, RDG became a traditional German company. Austrian RAG Austria AG. In 2017, RAG decided to focus its activities on Austria as part of a strategic consolidation process. At the beginning of 2018, therefore, the spin-off of RDG from RAG and the complete transfer of the company to Petroleum Equity took place.

The RDG is currently active both in northern Germany and in southern Bavaria. In Niedersachsen is the company in possession of exploration permits in the two license fields Heemsen and Borsum (RDG Niedersachsen GmbH). In Bavaria, the RDG focuses on the license area Salzach-Inn. Partnerships with partner companies exist in the concession areas Tannheim (Baden-Württemberg) and Lübben (Brandenburg).

The focus of the RDG is on 3D seismic investigations of the subsurface as well as deep drilling. In 2019, the first production well will be drilled in Ampfing, Bavaria. Hydraulic fracturing, the so-called "fracking", consistently excludes the RDG - the company concentrates exclusively on conventional methods of exploration and production.
